Whitby UK: Foot of the 199 steps - Whitby.
 These 199 steps connect the town to the parish church of St. Mary on the cliff top above. These 'church stairs' were first mentioned over six hundred years ago, and in the 1700's were apparently made from wood!. It's a good old climb from Church Street below to the church itself and onwards to the Abbey ruins, and there are still resting places at regular intervals. So take a deep breath, start counting the steps and off we go..... MORE... |
