If it is wall-to-wall guaranteed sunshine you're looking for, then Scarborough may not be the place for you. A better description would be "changeable".
Scarborough has a temperate climate, which means it never gets too hot or too cold; winters are cool and summers are warmish, on the whole. However, on the plus side, it does get more than its fair share of sunshine. In fact, Scarborough is one of the sunniest places in the UK!
Scarborough is sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds by the Pennines, so it is also drier than the seaside resorts of the North West. During the winter, if the wind blows from the east or north, it can feel very cold here as the North Sea can often be the source of snow and ice cold air.
July and August tend to be the most reliably hot and sunny times of year. Average daily temperatures are about 20 - 25 degrees celsius, with an average sea temperature of 15 degrees. Although the rain is usually no more than a few showers in this season, it does occasionally rain for whole days at a time... Don't say we didn't warn you!
