Many towns and cities boast a Grand Hotel, but few are as truly grand as this one in Scarborough. It towers majestically over the esplanade and the beach, with its grounds sloping down to the top of a high wall.
Scarborough is built on a series of hills rising from the sea and the architects of the Grand Hotel used this very much to their advantage, as the building perches on the hillside but looks very substantial because of the walled garden. The many windows and the galleried storey give great views over the sea and the lighthouse is clearly visible from all of the seaward rooms.
