St MaryŐs church is located in one of the most amazing positions of any church in the country, clinging to the top of the cliff and with incredible distant sea views from its churchyard.

The churchyard itself is in several separate plots and in one of them you can find the grave of Anne Bront‘, author of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. The church exterior is fascinating as a piece of architecture, as it has been changed a great deal through its long lifetime, with towers being demolished and other wings being built, so anyone interested in the subject will find hours of study here.

In a detached part of the burial ground, overlooked by the castle is buried Anne Bronte, who died on 28 May 1849, aged 28.
