Scarborough Castle is a stiff climb up from Marine Parade but is well worth it. The approach itself is a lovely walk, and is open all the time; the castle is run by English Heritage and has the usual opening hours.

The path runs between some grassy banks and is sometimes on the very edge of quite a long drop, so some care is needed especially if you are with children, but the views are spectacular and the feeling of achievement when you finally reach the castle is a real boost. The castle itself is a ruin, a victim of various military engagements and even a naval bombardment in World War II.
